Travel Makeup Picks + Tips

The end of the year is fast approaching, and with that comes the holidays! Whether you’re gearing up for an overseas adventure or just a weekend away, I always think of these products and tips when I’m packing my travel makeup bag. I’m definitely an over packer when it comes to travelling, so tips and ticks like this help me organise and eliminate unnecessary baggage! I hope you enjoy this post and if you do, please give it a “like“!

Tips

While it really depends on where you’re going and for how long, there are three things I keep in mind when packing my makeup bag for travelling. I pack:

  1. Products that are compact and have sturdy packaging.
  2. Items that have more than one product inside them.
  3. Affordable products that I wouldn’t mind if they got shattered in transit or I lost them.

Compact products save space and their sturdy packaging should help eliminate any makeup casualties. But if things do go wrong, it’s helpful if they’re easily replaceable and not your favourite, limited edition palette you can never buy again.

Picks

Base Products

In terms of liquid face products like foundations and concealers, I’d suggest products that come in tube, plastic packaging as glass bottles might shatter everywhere. My picks are the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous foundation as it’s my favourite foundation at the moment and the packaging is super lightweight, soft and slim. Same goes for my current favourite concealer, the Maybelline Master Conceal concealer! It’s packaging makes it so skinny and compact and nothing will happen if it gets dropped! Both these products are affordable, so I don’t worry about taking them travelling.

Tip: Pop your liquid products in snap lock bags so if they burst, the mess is controlled and won’t ruin everything else in your makeup bag. You can also still use the product if it’s contained the the snap lock bag!

Face Products

Can’t decide which blush to take? Or highlighter? Or need a compact contouring kit for all your sculpting needs? Don’t fret, because you can take all of them! Taking items that have multiple products in them will minimise the space you take up but maximise your on the go makeup collection. I did a quick check through my makeup collection and found an abundance of multi-product items! I absolutely love the Revlon x Chloe Morello Contouring Kit, so I highly recommend taking this if you already own it. You get a banana powder, (subtle) highlighter, bronzer and contouring shade all in one compact, sturdy palette! If you’d like to know more or see swatches, check out my review on this contouring kit!

If you’re someone who loves to highlight and want to bring them all, I recommend the Sleek Solstice palette as you get four different highlighting shades. I’ve also done a review on this gorgeous compact, so head over there for swatches and comparisons! I don’t own many blushes, but that’s because the Sleek Pink Lemonade blush trio fulfils all my needs! You get two powder blushes and one cream blush in this compact, so it’s perfect if you need variety or like to mix and match your shades together. Again, all these products are super affordable, compact and sturdy!

Eyeshadows

If you like affordable, quality, versatile, compact, light-weight eyeshadow palettes then I can’t recommend Chi Chi palettes enough! I own three of their palettes, but by far their Spices one is my favourite. It comes with such an amazing range of shades and I’m able to get simple everyday looks out of this but also bold and dramatic looks too. It just comes with everything I need in a palette; an insanely shimmery gold, multiple matte brown transition shades, rose gold shimmers, purples, oranges, frosty highlighting shades, the list goes on.

Another palette I love that’s perfect for the girl on the go is the Too Faced Natural Eyes palette. I can get so many looks out of this palette, from simple everyday to evening to dramatic, it can do it all. It also has an incredibly sturdy tin packaging and it’s super compact and lightweight, so it gets a big tick from me!

Lips

I almost wasn’t going to include lip products because I feel like they’re small enough to take as many as you feel you need, but I decided to anyway! I think it’s important to take a variety of formulas and for that reason I picked the NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in the shade Bedtime Flirt as it’s the best affordable liquid lipstick I’ve ever used! It’s lightweight on the lips, not drying, doesn’t flake off, has good staying power and I love this shade on me. A traditional lipstick that gives me that same effect is the Revlon Matte lipstick in the shade 003 Mauve It Over. These shades are both similar, but I know if I packed a dark vampy purple or red I’d never wear them. Neutral shades like the ones I’ve picked are just easier to work with, easier to reapply when you’re out and about and work so well with any makeup look.
